Beijyu Celebration

I had the privilege of capturing the 88th milestone “Beijyu” 米寿 for my Tea ceremony sensei, my husband’s Japanese teacher, and long-time friend in Ottawa. 88th is special age in Japan and those who achieve it deserve recognition. We call it Beijyu, in which the first Chinese character resembles 88. In cool breeze of May we had a fun session together before the huge party in June. Congratulations ! Omedeto Gozaimasu ! I am looking forward to the next milestone “Sotsujyu” 卒寿 !

Spring Shichigosan

I had a wonderful opportunity of beautiful portrait session for this family’s Shichigosan celebration ! On the gorgeous spring afternoon in May, although a bit chilly and windy, we had an amazing time capturing the special moments of joy. I am so happy and thankful to be able to take girls’ bright smile with a lots of help by everyone in this family !

Furisode sisters session

Celebration now ! I am so happy for these ladies and their family ! Pandemic forced us to wait for 2 years to have this session but here we are ! On the gorgeous spring afternoon we finally completed the amazing portrait session. I am extremely honored to be able to capture their special moment. I believe the kimono, which was owned by their mother, must be very proud to dress up the second generation. And maybe more in the future !

Kimono baby !

Omiyamairi is Japanese tradition for celebrating a newborn with special kimono with beautiful decorations. I am thrilled to have this Omiyamairi session for this happy family ! Two of the children have already had Shichigosan kids kimono session in the past and now third one ! I am so honored to be able capture the family’s special moments together.

The baby was not very happy about this session … sorry … but hopefully in the future we can view the images together with laughter !

Graceful and energetic !

I had a thrilling experience in last portrait session of collaborated project with Aging Gracefully Ottawa, Arita Cafe, and Calligraphy Ottawa ! Working together to create artwork for powerful and elegant woman was truly inspiring !! Thanks for this wonderful opportunity ! I hope my images convey the passion and inspiration from all artists in this production. Special thanks to Aging Gracefully Ottawa , Arita Cafe , and Calligraphy Ottawa !

Shichigosan girl !

We had a wonderful Shichigosan session in early February 2022. All family celebrated together for the beautiful Japanese princess. It was so much fun to see their smile!

In this session, we introduced the brand new hair corsage created by eiko_flower_ottawa !

As many of the flowers are individually prepared, you can make many combination! and fun ! I hope these decorations will be part of the memorable captures in the future and add the glow of the beautiful models !

Seijinshiki !

I had a privilege to capture another special celebration for this family. Seijinshiki in Japanese means the celebration for the youth to become coming-of-age stage. It is important tradition to dress up with Kimono to declare the achievement. I am so glad to see everyone’s happy faces ! I am very happy for all as well ! Haori Hakama style is really stunning ! Again, we were very careful about infection control and wore masks most of the time. (all the time for me) Images with masks should be laughable past soon …

Coming-of-Age-Day

In Japan, people becoming age twenty celebrate with traditional kimono in January. Here in Ottawa at CorgiMark studio, we can celebrate with kimono portraits session together with all happy family ! I am thrilled to be able to capture this youngster’s special day. I really like the creative idea of the clients for taking photos with his favorite things !

Under COVID situations, we were very careful during the session although it took place last year before semi-lock-down. I hope someday in the near future we all can laugh about the images with masks…
